Research and Methods: Reloaded? Remixed? Dismissed?

Last week I joined in Stephen Downs OnlineEvent about MOOC Research – as it is an important part of my M.A. Thesis … the questions posed are exactly what is on my mind since weeks … Today I found this link to a blogpost asking similar questions.
My spontaneous response via facebook was: very thoughtful … still leaves me with agreeing, but a big big-questionmark about a more adaquate way to do research on MOOCs … or better on “something really new” without dismissing traditional tools, but by new combinations, new additional ideas, diffrent criteria, different ways to look at the “object”, diffrent way to think …? emergence instead of dismissing research?
Also fitting: Monika Königs (mons7) weblog post, planning to compare to recent MOOCs and to define criteria therefore:
So: What do you think about it?
